Metro Produce Distributors Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, is pulling all Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole products with a use-by date of August 2, 2024, from the market. This precautionary measure is due to concerns about Listeria monocytogenes contamination, which can lead to serious infections.
These guacamole products were available at Lunds & Byerlys stores across the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, and were also offered at select “Taco Mas” food bars from July 27 through July 31. The recall notice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) highlights that the products come in clear plastic containers.
The recall was prompted by a routine sampling program which identified a risk of Listeria contamination in the guacamole. Although there have been no confirmed cases of illness reported as of the recall notice, the company has halted the production and distribution of these products while they investigate further.
This action is being conducted with the cooperation of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to ensure consumer safety.

Certain groups, including pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems, are particularly vulnerable to severe complications from Listeria infections.
