Healthy Food: Why Aren’t You Losing Weight?

Food Item to avoid

Diet is a crucial element of weight management, as it helps you to achieve your ideal weight and maintain your energy levels. Diet does not refer to the cutting of all food items, but it means eating healthy, nutritious food that fulfills your body requirements. Thus, you can try to maintain your weight or even reduce your weight by avoiding unhealthy habits.

Unhealthy habits include eating excessive junk food, lack of physical activity, and exercise. Everyone wants to look more beautiful, attractive, and handsome. To achieve this, you need a balanced diet suitable for your body.

The Food We Eat

Food is essential for living but what you choose to eat affects your health condition. Anything that you eat becomes part of your body as the body utilizes the food to make energy, cells, enzymes, hormones, and other substances. All these organelles or substances are essential for the proper functioning of the body.

You must be careful about what you eat as it determines your life expectancy. For example, if you eat more junk food with little physical activity, there is a high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Similarly, if you fatty, oily, or cholesterol-rich food items, the risk of developing diseases increases.

Likewise, alcohol consumption adversely affects the liver, and smoking harms the lungs. Consumption of such foods and practicing these unhealthy lifestyles increase the risk of disease development. Further, they can lead to the formation of comorbidities and complications resulting in death. Thus, life expectancy reduces.

Essential Nutrients You Should Eat

Nutrients are compounds present in foods and are essential to life and health. The body utilizes them to repair, grow, and regulate chemical processes. There are two categories of nutrients depending upon the amount required by the human body.

These two categories are macronutrients and micronutrients. The macronutrients include those nutrients that the body requires in large amounts. However, micronutrients consist of those nutrients that the body needs in minute quantity. Every food item contains some types of nutrients. Mostly, they consist of a mixture of micronutrients and macronutrients. A balanced amount of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids (fats), minerals, and water is necessary for a healthy body.

Some food items contain excessive proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, fats, or water. The nutrient present in the food item in excess determines whether it is safe to consume or not. However, you need to know about the composition of the food you eat and the number of calories it contains. Besides, it is vital to eat a balanced amount of nutrients. In a nutshell, you can eat anything but calculate the benefits and risks before eating it.

Avoid Eating Excess Of These Food Items

To lose weight, you must calculate your body mass index (BMI) and set your goal according to it. However, there are some items that you must be cautious about consuming. These include boxed cereal, vegetable and canola oil, flavored yogurt, protein powder, granola, candy bars, ice-cream, and soda. They also consist of bread, potato chips, tortilla chips, packaged-marinades, crackers, salad dressing, and roasted-almonds.

These items contain sugars and additives, and they also cause a lot of inflammation. Further, these items increase insulin resistance, cause instability in sugar levels, and result in weight gain. In place of peanut oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil, you should choose olive oil and avocado oil, as they are healthy and great for cooking. You can consume food fried in olive oil.

Also, using plain yogurt or adding your fruit or cinnamon is better than artificially flavored yogurts. You can use protein powders but prefer NSF certified protein powders. Similarly, use loaves at your local bakery rather than processed bread as they contain added sugars. In conclusion, you need to control the amount and quality of the food you eat to lose weight.
